How to do it: The High Line and the Hudson piers
The High Line is a freight line turned into a park, a mile and a half long, 30 feet above the West Side. Walk it north, then come back down along the Hudson River piers for a long, easy loop.
It gets crowded; mornings are best.
- The order to do it in
- Gansevoort St to the Spur on the High Line, the Intrepid if you want it, then south along Hudson River Park: Pier 57, Little Island, Gansevoort Peninsula, Christopher St Pier, Pier 26.
- When to go
- Weekday mornings. Sunset on the piers.
- Getting there
- Start at 14th St (A C E) or 8th Ave (L). Finish near Franklin St (1).
- What to bring
- Water; shade is patchy on the piers.
- What it costs
- Free, except the Intrepid.
Worth knowing
- The High Line has stair and elevator access at several streets.
- Little Island sometimes uses timed entry on busy afternoons.
