Ascension Underground is the dramatic play that never was, until now. This show was two weeks from opening when Covid shut it down. Now in 2026, it’s time to let it come out to “play,” at last. From the playwright that brought you Angels Among Us, All Because of Infidelity, and Appropriate Behavior… comes Ascension Underground. Sometimes the only way up is through the dark. Performing November 3-8, 2026 Tuesday-Saturday at 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 3pm at The American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54th Street, (4th floor) New York, NY TICKETS are $34.00 Hidden beneath Manhattan, Ascension Underground is a mysterious pop-up experience where strangers believe they are gathering for an elite, invitation-only, one-night underground nightlife event. No phones. No judgment. No easy way to explain what happens inside. The anonymously invited guests, arriving from wildly different walks of life, enter expecting little more than chosen pleasures, human connection, reinvention, cosplay, music, and escape. But what they don’t realize is as the night unfolds, the experience slowly reveals itself to be something far more than night life. Every room, conversation, object, and encounter begins to feel charged with deeply personal meaning, as if the club itself somehow understands exactly who its guests are beneath the identities they perform for the outside world. Part psychological thriller, part underground fever-dream reality, Ascension Underground explores what happens when people are finally given the opportunity to remove the masks they wear every day and are forced to confront the truths, fears, desires, and their insecurities hidden underneath.
